Strange Philosophy: A Synopsis of Abdul Ghani Khan's Philosophy of Junoon and Janan\protect \RL (bibtex)
by Shazia Babar
Abstract:
Abdul Ghani Khan (1914-1996) is one of the greatest Pashto poets of the twentieth century. His influence and dominance in the modern literary world is remarkable. He is not only a prolific writer but the depth of his sympathetic understanding and sensitivity towards various aspects of life are colossal. His philosophy and theory frequently debated upon is best summarised in his poem عجيبه فلسفه (Strange Philisophy), part of his popular collection of poetry پانوس (1978). This poem is written in the narrative tradition with a conversational style he particularly favours when he desires to prove a point. Such a style has been frequently used by him for instance in his poems جنت (Heaven) and شاعر او لېلا (Poet and Laila).
