Abstract:
This paper investigates the research that has been conducted with the discovery of a large ancient rock found at Baistoon (Iran) with cuneiform writings. Researchers like Abdul Hai Habibi have argued that this is a form of old Pashto while Dr. Chiragh Hussain Shah has neither refuted nor agreed with this theory. Abdul Hai Habibi though a great scholar was not a linguist so he may be wrong in his assumption for the cuneiform words may be semantically correct but incorrect phonetically. It is proved that these sentences are close to Persian but not Pashto.
