Abstract = {Pakhtoon Folk Romances are steeped in the Culture and tradition of the Pahktuns. These Folk Romances have both an oral and written traditions. Listening to these romances whether ancient or modern is favorite pastime of the people. Now many of them are available in verse on cassettes on the footpaths of the Qissa Khwani Bazar. The demand for these stories in written is small but some of them are available as inexpensive brightly illustrated booklets (Heston, 9, 8). The Folk stories are divided into two groups. One of romances or love stories and the other are stories of conflicts. This paper will consider the women character present in the first group of romances that deal with a hero and heroine from whose name the story takes its title. But before we do so it is importance to discuss women position in Pakhtun society.},
