Abstract:
Poetry whether oral or written has been a vehicle to transport man’s thoughts and ideas. In this paper the writer traces the different poets, philosophers and thinkers through the ages. He commences with the Greek homer and goes on to Plato, Aristotle, Sir Philip Sidney, Mathew Arnold and finally to the French philosophers. Furthermore, he also traces the Pashto poets starting with Ameer karore and paying singular attention to Bayazid Ansari, Khushal Khan Khattak and Ashraf Khan. All these poet showed great independence of thought and were steeped in the spirit of patriotism. The writer feels that their poetry and also of the moderns is a strong voice against the spirit of deprivation and denial that is found in their social set-up.
