A Voice through Literature: Pashtoon Women Writers (Subjects and Themes)\protect \RLد پښتنو په چاپېرچل کښې پښتنې ليکوالې (bibtex)

Abstract:
The Pashtoons have always found poetry to be a powerfull vehicle for expressing and preserving their national identity and culture. Men and women have made tremendous contribution to poetry though the role of women until recently has been an anonymous one. Given the socio-economic backwardness of the Pashtoon region and the social and cultural constraints on woman’s participation in society one is surprised to observe the bulk of the poetic literature both oral and written attributed to women poets. This paper aims to not only trace the position of women in the Pashtoon society but also their literary role over the years as they moved from being anonymous composers of oral poetry towards a more modern literary world of the twenty first century.
