Abstract:
Sokia, a sikh, was a Pashto poet of eighteenth century. Various researchers have given different opinions about his place of birth. James Darmesteter in his work entitled "Da Pakhtoonkhwa Da Sher Hara- o-Bahar" gives, for the first time, some information about sokia's name, nationality and living place. Though the same information has been repeatedly used by some other scholars, yet these information are flawed and incorrect. In the present study, I have investigated, with the help of ethnographic methods, particularly an interview with sokia's paternal grandson. Apart from them, I have also reviewed some relevant literature to reach some facts related with the poet.
