Abstract:
Among the so called "Prison poets" of Pashto literature, after Kushhal Khan Khattak, his elder son, Ashraf khan Hijri is the poet who because of fourteen years of incessant prison and death meanwhile, has the renown as "the poet of chains". Ashraf khan Hijri, like his father, has been the victim of Mughal political and bureaucratic outrage and was victimized so that not only he spent fourteen precious years of his life in the Mughal prison but also succumbed to death there which is an unforgettable tragedy of Ashraf khan Hijri's life. In this thesis, the root cause of Ashraf Khan Hijri imprisonment has been pinpointed in the backdrop of historical event of the time and in the light of research, on account of which he was sent behind the "black bars" of prison.
