Raising And Control: A Case Of Parametric Variation Across Pashto And English\protect \RL (bibtex)
by Riaz-ud Din and Muhammad Iqbal
Abstract:
The pair of constructions which is being investigated in the present study are the grammatical constructions respectively termed as control and raising—with their concerned sub-divisions. It is argued that these constructions stand in a parameterized relationship not only within English language but cross-linguistically across Pashto and English as well. The focus in this study is on the former i.e., Pashto wherein it is shown that Pashto unlike English is the wider grammar so far the constructions under investigation are concerned. The framework adopted in the existing analysis is the Control Module of Binding Theory which has crossed over into the Minimalist Program.
