Abstract:
Like the other parts of Pakhtunkhwa, Bannu has also great contributions regarding the modern poetry after the classical poetry in Pashto literature in the mid-20th century. As Tahir Kulachwi, a great poet of Bannu laid the foundation of Pashto Literary Society in 1956, so the well-known and well-educated poets and writers also joined him in that great work and began to study Pashto literature as well as other literatures especially English literature. From that literary society, the regular literary tradition initiated in Bannu in 1956, and so the modern literature also started in the same years. Among those well-known poets were Abdur Raheem Majzoob, Ghazi Sialsb, Luqman Tariq, Master Jamal and so forth. So for as the question of the modern poetry of Pashto is concerned, it originated from English to Urdu and then to Pashto. In 1865, after the 1857 War of Independence, the Anjaman-e-Punjab, an organization which was established for the welfare of the society rebelled the traditional and formal style of Urdu poetry. It laid the foundation of new thoughts and opened a new era for the modern poetry. In Pashto literature, especially in poetry, it has also its own different types of poetry, such as Tapa, Nemaki, Buggy, Charbetha, Loba, Baddala, and so on which could not be find in other literature. Indeed, it is the great blessing of Tahir Kulachwi, who established the foundation of “Pakhto Adabi Toloona” with other well-known poets and initiated the regular and modern Pashto literature and flourished the soil of Bannu with the real literature. However, to pace with the new era for a long walk, it was necessary to find out the demands of a new era, which was fulfilled by the “Wolasi Tanqeedi Toloona Bannu”.
