Abstract:
Linguistics as independent discipline has no long history but in different parts of the world, various aspects of language have been studied and written about since long. With the passage of time these basic studies proved as a base for modern scientific study of language that is linguistics. Today, linguistics as a discipline is a wide spread disciplines with many sub branches and taught and studies in the universities across the world. This article deals that when and where studies and writings about linguistics initiated. It also discusses that how these early studies of linguistics have evolved through various stages and reached to the current status.
